Will my child be physically restrained?
All our staff are trained to use physical intervention, using the “PRICE” system, which stands for “Protecting Rights in a Caring Environment”. But physical intervention will only ever be used as the last resort, and we do all we can to prevent it being necessary.
The only circumstances in which we will restrain are in order to keep people safe, to prevent injury to the pupil concerned, to prevent injury to others, to prevent significant damage to or destruction of property, and to prevent significant disruption to the learning of others. In these circumstances we will use physical intervention; but we will do it in as caring, gentle and nurturing way as is possible.
Our full Physical Intervention Policy is available via the Policies page of this website.
"He's a different child, after only his first term. I've seen such a change in him and I think it's the school that's doing it."
Parent, Maypole School (Croydon), July 2026
"Wow. He has never, ever had any success, in any other school he has been in. I'm really impressed".
Social Worker for a Maypole pupil, July 2026
"I've never seen him so relaxed, so happy. And he never likes any school. He said "Mum, I love it. The teachers help me. If you're struggling, someone helps you.""
Parent, Maypole School (Leigham Court), January 2024
